Intro
A refit, a new layout, a moved category. Pre/post measurement compares visitor behaviour in the same zones before and after the change.
On the Indivd platform, you can set up a measurement that compares visitor behaviour in the same zones across a period before a physical change and a period after it. That means a refit, a new layout or a moved category gets judged on what visitors actually did, rather than on a sales figure that also contains the weather, the season and whatever campaign was running.
Available on Indivd Basic, Pro and Complete.
What it compares
Across both periods, for the zones you are measuring: visitor count, so you can see whether the area draws more people. Dwell time, so you can see whether they stay longer. Traffic share, so you can see whether the area takes a larger part of the location's traffic.
A line for one specific point
If the change is a window display, an entrance or any single point rather than an area, you can add a line-based measurement to count the people who stop there. Line-based data can be captured at up to minute-level granularity. Lines have to be added before the pre-period starts, through your Indivd contact.
Planning the two periods
Fix the split point, which is the date the change goes live. The pre-period is a set number of weeks immediately before it, and the post-period is the same number of weeks immediately after. Two weeks each is the recommended minimum, and both periods should cover the same days of the week so weekday patterns do not bias the result.
Once the pre-period starts, nothing needs doing. Data is collected automatically, and you compare by setting the dashboard date range to each period in turn.
Zones have to be settled first
Zones must be configured before the pre-period begins, and must cover the area that will change. Adjusting zone boundaries mid-measurement breaks comparability, so if a zone needs changing, it changes before the baseline starts. Zone adjustments go through your Indivd contact.
What it answers
Stores | Malls | Airports |
|---|---|---|
A refit, a moved category or a new display: did the area draw more visitors, hold them longer, or take a larger share of traffic. | An activation or event in a low-traffic zone: did it change how visitors moved between zones, not just how many attended. | A change to the passenger environment: did it hold up when compared across terminals and over time. |
